Divorce Recovery
The purpose of our Divorce Recovery Class is to help people going through a divorce to receive guidance and support as they grapple with the struggle and emotions of this traumatic experience. It is led by members of our church who have experienced divorce. They are not professional counselors, but they are sincere people with training and experience in facilitating a small group who care about others going through divorce. This class meets every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in room A215.
Class Overview
A videotape series is viewed at each meeting, followed by discussion and interaction. One of the strengths of the class is that every person is going through the same experience of divorce and can provide tremendous support and understanding to each other. It is an open group that can be attended at any time. You do not have to be a member of Calvary to participate. The videotape and discussions are Christ-centered, because we believe only as we look to the strength and help of our loving and powerful God can we deal with this difficult situation appropriately.
Material Overview
The six-session video-based series (produced by the American Association of Christian Counselors) called "Life After Divorce" includes the following topics: Facing Divorce, Grief and Loss, Forgiveness, Starting Over, New Relationships, Children and Divorce. You can begin attending the class at any point in the series. While it is not always easy or pleasant to face some of the issues raised in this class, the long-term benefits greatly outweigh the initial pain you feel. Greg & Lynn Jenkins, who have both been through a divorce, lead the class with knowledge, understanding and sensitivity.
For More Information
To learn more, call (318) 445-5640 and ask for more information about Calvary's Divorce Recovery Classes. Calvary also offers a Wednesday Night Divorce Recovery Class that starts in the Fall and Spring of each year. This is a closed group (meaning that no new members are admitted after the group starts) that requires an interview and meets for 10 weeks and then ends. A workbook entitled, "A Time of Healing: Coming to Terms with Your Divorce" by Dr. Harold Ivan Smith is used that involves interactive lessons that each group member works through for each session. There is a nominal fee charged for the workbook. This class is part of our CARE Network ministry.
